The Government has termed National Super Alliance’s plans to
block the swearing-in of president elect Uhuru Kenyatta as a sinister motive.
Government Spokesperson Mr Eric Kiraithe said on Thursday
that NASA’s plan to block the highly anticipated fete will not succeed in
blocking President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto’s swearing-in.
Mr Kiraithe’s sentiments come in the backdrop of sensational
claims by Siaya Senator James Orengo who quipped of a plan to have a parallel
swearing-in ceremony for Mr Odinga, should their plan to block Uhuru’s
swearing-in flop.
“The law is the law and Kenya has adequate capacity to
enforce it. What is legally binding to be done shall be done whether one or two
people like it or not,” Mr Kiraithe said in reference to Mr Orengo’s
exposed plan.
He added: “If you are not happy with the Constitution
as it is, there are avenues in Parliament and a referendum. These other noises
will only destabilise this country.”
In the recent past, Nasa presidential candidate Mr
Raila Odinga and his team, has been championing for a forced repeat
presidential election within 90 days after he opted to quit the race in
repeat polls for October 26.
Mr Odinga, in his address to the press after Mr Kenyatta was
declared the president-elect in October 26 polls, said that he would not
recognise the presidency of Mr Kenyatta, vowing to frustrate his efforts.
In the meantime, as the coalition awaits the election within
90 days, thanks to the formed People’s Assembly, Nasa lawmakers have been sent
to county assemblies to help MCAs debate motions spread in19 counties they
enjoy a strong following.
Should the motion pass in at least 24 counties, then law
provides, will not recognise Uhuru’s presidential legitimacy and will declare
the August 8 and October 26 elections as “invalid, null and void,” Nasa
strategic team said.
Mr Kiraithe, however, said that MPs will not be allowed to sit at the county assemblies.
“Kenyans should protect their institutions. If a man who was
elected by the people to go to Parliament doesn’t like the idea, he cannot
decide to walk into a county assembly, he has no space there,” Mr Kiraithe
affirmed.
