The body of slain Independent Electoral and Boundaries
Commission (IEBC) ICT manager Chris Msando arrived in his rural home in Siaya
County on Friday August 18th.
Msando’s body was flown to Kisumu aboard a Kenya Airways
flight accompanied by his close family members. Kisumu Governor-elect Anyang’
Nyong’o, his wife Dorothy (who is a relative of Mr Msando’s widow) and Kisumu
Central MP-elect Fred Ouda, received the body at the airport.
Msando was finally laid to rest on Saturday at his rural
home in Lifunya village, Ugenya, Siaya County. IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati
and CEO Ezra Chiloba were among top officials who skipped Msando’s burial in
Ugenya. Nasa leaders Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and James
Orengo were in attendance.
The somber mood that engulfed Msando’s homestead during his
burial was replaced by an intense excitement and happiness after the burial.
Mourners were treated to Benga music at night after the
deceased was buried. Even Msando’s widow Eva Buyu joined mourners on stage to
shake a leg. (N/B: The dancing after burial is part of Luo tradition).
