A few days to presidential election and a brother to IEBC
official has been forced to run away the county.
The brother to Independent Electoral and Boundaries
Commission (IEBC) Commissioner Roselyn Akombe has run away from Kenya.
The 34-year-old, whose identity remains hidden due to
security reason, is said to have escaped from the country through the
Namanga border point on September 5.
According to the brother, he received numerous threat
messages which he divulged was targeted at his sister and other commissioners.
“He left the country last week when the threats became
too much,” Akombe was quoted by the Nation.
In a report by the local daily, the middle-aged man
worked in one of the government ministries.
He reportedly avoided going through the Jomo Kenyatta
International Airport (JKIA) for security reasons and instead traveled to
Namanga by road, before crossing the border to neighboring Tanzania.
Dr. Akombe disclosed that her brother was forced to pass
through five countries in eight days before finally landing to where he is
currently hiding.
The IEBC official mentioned that she feels responsible for the current predicament the brother was in.
“He is a man who loves this country and had always
resisted our attempts to get him something to do abroad. I feel
responsible for it. It feels bad but what can you do about it?” she posed.
Akombe, who took a leave of absence at the United Nations
where she works added: “I have been to Somalia, Yemen, Jordan, Iraq and
even Libya for security assessment missions but on a personal basis I have
never felt this insecure”.
