A group of Kikuyu Council of Elders has cursed embattled
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino for his recent utterances against President
Uhuru Kenyatta.
The elders, drawn from various locations in Kiambu County,
converged at Mama Ngina Gardens in Thika Town on Tuesday. They performed a
traditional ritual to put a curse on Babu for what they termed as the
MP’s disrespect to the elderly and the women of Kenya.
They slaughtered a lamb without blemish and burnt its
meat to ashes. They then mixed the lamb’s blood with milk, honey, and
other substances before spilling it around the fire while performing a ritual.
Led by Mzee King’e Wa Njonge, the council then prayed while
facing Mt Kenya.
They said that smoke from the burnt offering rose to the sky
meaning God had accepted their sacrifice.
Mzee Njonge explained that after the exercise, everything was
now in the hands of the gods whom he said were at will to deal with Babu
Owino in whatever manner they deemed fit.
“We were angered by the young boy’s insults. Even the Bible
is clear that parents must be respected alongside leaders who have been anointed
to lead,” King’e said.
“Likening the former First lady to a dog and the president
to a puppy has caused us a lot of pain. God will unleash His wrath upon him.”
Council chairman Njoroge Karatu said the ceremony was
the first of its kind in the country against a non-Kikuyu and that Babu will
experience the repercussions in seven days, seven months or seven years.
“We were born by mothers and every mother or woman who
listened to what Owino said, likening them to dogs, must be hurt. This
sacrifice will make this country tremble once the curse takes effect.”
They also noted that Babu has a chance to avoid the curse should
he repent before the council and apologizes to the President and his mother.
“Elders can still conduct another cleansing ceremony that
will set him free of the curse if he seeks forgiveness.”
