Raila Takes Urgent Step After Matiang’i Vowed Not To Return Bodyguards

NASA Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga has taken an urgent security step after Acting Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i vowed not to return police officers withdrawn from him and running mate Kalonzo Musyoka.

Speaking in Kajiado, Mr. Matiangi firmly stated that the withdrawal was a routine procedure.

He also dared Opposition leaders to make good their threats of a mass action if the bodyguards were not reinstated
“We are not going to run the security of this country on the basis of threats.
“I heard one politician say that we either return the police officers or they call for mass action. They can proceed and call for mass action because that position is not going to change,” he said.
The CS also mentioned that the NASA leaders were misusing the police officers.
“Why should we give you 20 police officers to loiter from press conference to press conference, from hotel to hotel, when they are needed elsewhere?” he questioned.
In a rejoinder, the former Prime Minister acted by hiring private security to secure his Bondo home.
According to Boniface Oginga, a caretaker at Raila’s Opoda Farm, the four officers at premises left in a hurry after a police vehicle came to take them away.
"All I can say is that the officers left at around 3 pm after a police vehicle came and asked all the officers to pack and leave. They left us dumbfounded,” Oginga was quoted by the Nation.
