Matiang'i Responds After Raila Swearing-In Was 'Gazetted' As A Holiday

Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday distanced himself from a widely circulated public notice purporting to declare Tuesday January 30, a public holiday.

In a notice seen by Pulse Live Kenya, the public notice claims that the CS issued a gazette notice notifying all Kenyans that Tuesday would be marked as a public holiday to swear in Nasa leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.
“It is notified for general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-Ordination of National Government, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, declares Tuesday, the 30 January, 2018 be a public holiday,” the fake gazette notice reads.

It adds: “This is to accord Kenyans the opportunity to participate in the swearing-in of Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga and Hon Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka as the People’s President and Deputy President respectively.”
Later, taking to his twitter account, the CS urged hundreds of his followers to ignore the notice terming it fake.
“The Public is advised to disregard the contents of this document that is being circulated on social media. It is fake,” the CS said in a public notice.

Twitter Ads info and privacSpeculations were rife on the better part of Wednesday claiming that the CS had gazetted Tuesday January 30, a public holiday.

Nasa leadership is looking at the said date to swear-in its leadership at Uhuru Park, Nairobi.
