Sonko Reveals How Igathe Betrayed Him At The Hour Of Need

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has now opened up on the circumstances that led to the resignation of his deputy Polycarp Igathe.

During an interview with Kameme FM, Sonko stated that Igathe's resignation was a wrong and ill-advised decision.
He stated that Igathe would have done better if he had consulted Jubilee leaders or even religious leaders to mend their frosty relationship.

"He should not have left because we looked for this job together. If I had wronged him, he should have reported me to President Uhuru or Deputy Prwesident William Ruto, even the likes of Bishop Teresia would have helped us," Sonko remarked with a tinge of remorse.
According to the city boss, Igathe was frustrated by the pressure that characterised their first days in office, explaining that City Hall had suffered many years of mismanagement.
The Nairobi Governor went further to allege that his deputy did not resign on his own will but did so on the advise of some of Sonko's opponents.

"My deputy (Igathe), two or three people misled him. I am sure he is regretting (resigning) ... we still talk, tunatext. And we know the people who misled him. I won't be bullied, I only take orders from the President and his deputy," the governor stated.
He also dismissed reports of holding dialogue with the outgoing DG, saying he had not been approached for such talks.
