Has Raila Abandoned Kenya In Its Time Of Need?

Has Raila abandoned Kenya in its time of need?

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has been unusually quiet following the unraveling of the alleged Sh9 billion corruption scandal at the National Youth Service (NYS). This is unlike him.

A section of the public has expressed concerns over the deafening silence from Mr. Odinga and also his brigade in the Opposition.
However, it seems that this time around Kenyans could be on their own.
Unlike the 2015 NYS scandal, which the former Prime Minister took former Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru head on and pushed for her resignation, Kenyans will now have to deal with their own problems.
A hashtag dubbed #RailaRemainQuiet is supporting the Opposition leader's silence.
Many who have joined the hashtag blame Kenyans for the countless corruption scam being witnessed in the country.

From the responses, they hold that Kenyans refused to back Odinga during the 2017 General Election but only call on him when things are thick.
NASA chief strategist David Ndii on Thursday told off tweeps asking him to organize demonstrations against the multi-billion heist at the Service.
"For five years we called out Uhuruto on corruption and economic blunders. They subverted elections to stay in power. You did not come out to support removing them.
"Now you turn around and ask why we are not shouting. Choices, consequences. You have the leaders you deserve," he said.

At the same time lawyer, Nelson Havi said: "Did it ever occur to you that one day HE Raila Odinga would stop fighting against corruption and impunity for you? It has happened. You have vilified him to stop. You must now speak and fight for yourself or perish. You are on your own."
Some political pundits speculated that the handshake between president Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr. Odinga could be contributing to the latter’s silence.
Meanwhile, popular social media group Buyer Beware on Thursday announced that there will be countrywide protests on May 31, 2018.
Under the hashtag #STOPTheseTHIEVES, the organizer asked public to throng the streets to protest against the multi-billion scandal.
