NASA MPs on Monday claimed that the suppliers of the August
8 election kits, French Company Safran, gave the Independent Electoral and
Boundaries Commission (IEBC) a Sh200 million bribe for the tender which they
won in the run up to the polls.
The legislators demanded that the French firm leave the
country over its contribution to the bungled polls which the Supreme Court
ruled had been marred with irregularities and illegalities
Safran provided the electronic systems that identified
Kenyan voters and transmitted election results.
In a September 7 letter, Nasa co-principal Musalia Mudavadi,
wrote to the French government demanding action against Safran and Morpho
companies over the bungled polls.
“We wish to bring to your attention that in providing the
said ICT support services to the commission, the subject companies have been
involved in unethical acts that may amount to criminal activities under the
Elections Act and the Elections Offences Act of the Laws of Kenya,”he wrote.
The coalition accused Safran of allowing unauthorised access
to its servers and manipulating the transmission of results.
They have also accused the firm of "fraudulently
displaying fake statistics on a public portal purporting the same to be results
of the elections".
NASA said Safran also refused to provide access to the Kenya
elections servers and transactions logs as directed by the Supreme Court.
“We want a new supplier of election technology materials. We
will not take part in any elections unless all those who were responsible for
irregularities in the nullified presidential election have been cleared,” NASA
leader Raila Odinga stated.
