NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga has hit back at
Deputy President William Ruto who claimed the Opposition leader is holding
Kenyans hostage.
Ruto had on Sunday, September 17 called out Raila for
swearing to remove the IEBC from office before he agrees to participate in the
repeat October 17 poll.
“I saw Ruto giving threats asking who we think we are, he
will know who we are. We are the people’s representatives. He must respect the
decision of Kenyans. Kenya is not William Ruto or Uhuru Kenyatta,” said Raila
on Monday, September 18.
Speaking during a press conference at the Okoa Kenya
headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, Raila told the DP he was not afraid to
participate in the repeat election.
The exercise is set to be a match between the NASA leader
and President Uhuru Kenyatta after the President’s earlier win in the August 8
poll was annulled by the Supreme Court.
“We are not fearing going to the poll, we got ready
yesterday but we cannot go to that election if those who stole our votes are
managing the repeat poll,” said Raila.
The NASA leader has made several demands to the IEBC, chief
among them the resignation and prosecution of 12 top officials whom he claims
bungled the August election.
Speaking during a press conference, Raila claimed the
Jubilee team are “vote thieves” who should be embarrassed to claim they are
leaders.
“Kenya cannot be led by leaders who have sense of justice,”
he added.
He supported the European Union report which also said
several demands must be met by the IEBC before the election is done.
Raila said he knows several companies which can be
contracted by the electoral commission to install its IT system afresh.
