A candidate who lost in the
August 8 General Elections has narrated a bizarre incident in a bid to convince
a court that his opponent gained undue advantage by engaging the services of
four witchdoctors.
The petitioner Letutut Ole
Masikonde, in his affidavit filed before the Chief Magistrates court in Narok,
claims his opponent had among other things slaughtered a colobus monkey and
tied its skin on his waist to woo voters.
Mr Masikonde lost in the
race for the ward seat of the Olposimoru ward.
He claims the witchcraft act
deleted all his phone contacts and he was thus unable to get in touch with his
supporters ahead of the election date.
On 4th August 2017, our last
day of campaigns, the respondent brought and engaged the services of four
wizards,Mr Masikonde states in the affidavit.
They (wizards) slaughtered a
columbus monkey and spread the intestinal remains in Olposimoru, Olemeisi,
Shabaltarakwa and Kamurar/Kukenik polling stations.
They tied the skin on the
colobus monkey on the first respondent waist like a belt. The effect was to
confuse voters. The first respondent started greeting and hugging voters
animatedly. Mysteriously, all the voters who made contact with the first
Respondent voted in his favour.
The other shocking event is the loss of my phone contacts on my phonebook
and SIM. I woke up in the morning of August 4 to realize that my phone contacts
were blank! As a result, I was unable to respond to the urgent issues or get in
touch with my supporters. Further, a trailer carrying my supporters overturned
mysteriously resulting in injury and hospitalization of 7 women.
