Two people were killed on Friday as Kenyan police tried to disperse supporters of opposition leader, Raila Odinga, reuters reported.
Raila Odinga jetted back in the country today from the United States where after a 10 day tour where he held a series of high level meetings and talks with various leaders on reforming Kenya’s democratic processes.
Thousands of his supporters turned up to accompany him from the airport to central Nairobi.
Police fired tear gas at the convoy and used water cannon as they tried to stop it reaching the capital’s main business district, live footage on Kenyan TV showed.
The deaths occurred as police and protesters fought on one of the main roads leading to the business district, the Reuters photographer said. Police spokesmen did not immediately respond to phone calls.
The car carrying Mr. Odinga's car was also hit and a windscreen shuttered after police shot at the car.
Odinga was in the white Range Rover when the windscreen was hit in circumstances that are not yet clear.
Vehicle owners plying Mombasa Road suffered the wrath of supporters who clashed with police officers along the busy road.
