Uhuru And Ruto's Huge Fight That Led To Igathe's Resignation

Fresh details now suggest that a protracted political fight between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy is to blame for Nairobi deputy governor's untimely resignation.

New information show that Ruto and Kenyatta have been trying to control Nairobi politics, each with a different and conflicting agenda.
The DP wants to consolidate Nairobi as his political base ahead of the 2022 presidential election while Kenyatta's State House team is keen on revamping the city through proper governance.

The Star on Friday reported its sources indicating that the Ruto camp, which includes Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, has had an upper hand. It has also emerged that Igathe resigned after frustration from the Ruto-Sonko camp.
Also in the State House team is County Secretary nominee Peter Kariuki, and the county speaker Beatrice Elachi.
Kariuki is a former State House operative who was forwarded to City Hall on the President's recommendation, but is yet to take office in what is seen as Sonko's defiance to the head of state.

Elachi is alleged to have advised Igathe to write a pre-dated resignation letter as a way of bargaining power for the State House team.
However, the Nairobi speaker has since distanced herself from the DG's decision saying they did not consult on the matter.
I went to Naivasha on Wednesday, two days before Igathe resigned. He just called me on Friday to ask where I was and I told him that I was at a workshop in Naivasha. So I did not talk to him,” she stated in response to the allegation.
The revelations came even as Jubilee leaders continue to lead private talks meant to convince Igathe to withdraw his resignation and resume the cordial relationship he previously enjoyed with the city governor.
