Big win for CJ Maraga

Chief Justice David Maraga can now relax after a petition seeking his removal from office was withdrawn on Friday.

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, who had filed the case with the Judicial Service Commission, made the move following orders from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In a statement seen by Pulselive.co.ke the legislator stated that he had considered the political environment and opted to withdraw the petition.

However, the Nyeri MP maintained that he still stands with his petition.
"I stand by the grievances in the #MaragaPetition but due to the current political environment I will not pursue it, for now," he said.

Earlier, Wambugu stated that his petition was based on concrete evidence on the irregular and illegal conduct of the Chief Justice over the period he has headed the judiciary.

The Nyeri Town MP listed a number of allegations including accusing Maraga of illegally influencing the decision of the Supreme Court judges to nullify President Kenyatta's election.
He claimed that one of the judges in the apex court, Mohammed Ibrahim, was forced off the bench by Maraga.
