Nairobi Traffic Boss Orders Police Not To Arrest Petty Traffic Offenders Like Driving Under The Influence Of Alcohol.

Related imageNairobi Traffic Police Commandant Peter Ndung' has issued a new directive to traffic police instructing them not to arrest petty motorist offenders.

According to a statement issued by Mr Ndung'u, only drivers with serious offences can be escorted to a Police Station for processing if found guilty of violating traffic rules.

"Petty offenders will not be arrested but issued with notices to appear in court at an agreed date," he stated in an interview with Capital FM News.

He noted that the move to bar the arrest of small offenders is part of efforts to address corruption and bad perception in the police service.

The traffic boss further indicated that failure to appear in court as stipulated in the notice would lead to the arrest of the offenders.

Besides the arrest, he further pointed out that those who fail to comply with the court order will face hefty charges.

"We will blacklist their cars by putting a caveat on them so that they cannot conduct any business with insurance firms and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA)," he stated.
The small offences include overlapping, overspeeding, careless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

For Public Service Vehicles (PSV) the operators should adhere to the uniforms and badges rules.
For motorcycle drivers, the rider is supposed to have only one passenger and they must both be in reflective vests and helmets
