Barely hours after the government withdrew his bodyguards,
NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga has hired new private guards to
provide him with security.
During an interview with a local daily on Tuesday evening at
his residential place in Nairobi, Radar company security guards were spotted at
Odinga's Karen home after the withdrawal of his bodygaurds.
The former Prime Minister disclosed that the government
was planning to harm him adding that it was the reason his guards were
recalled.
He linked President Uhuru Kenyatta to the withdrawal of his
security as an attempt to cripple his campaigns.
"I have a good reason to believe they want to do harm
to us. And rather than trying to do physical harm to us, they should just
arrest us and take us to prison."
"These are unilateral decisions, which I
think are made by the President because it is only the President who
can order the withdrawal of a former Prime Minister's security. They want to
cripple my campaigns because the President fears that if we are able to
campaign properly, then he has no chance against us," Odinga was
quoted by the Star.
However, Police spokesman Charles Owino refuted claims
that Odinga's security had been withdrawn. He said that the number of his
bodyguards was only scaled down.
Odinag's security detail was withdrawn just a day to
the planned protests by NASA against the IEBC.
The Opposition leader had announced that they would
peacefully demonstrate from Tuesday in a bid to force IEBC CEO Ezra
Chiloba to resign, who has maintained that he won't quit.
The planned demos kicked off in different parts of the country
on Tuesday but the NASA principals did not attend.
