Raila Odinga's Advisor Reveals What NASA Had Planned Before Opting For Court Petition.

Opposition Leader  Raila Odinga's advisor Salim Lone has revealed that the National Super Alliance (NASA) had different plans before Thursday's announcement that they would file a petition at the Supreme Court.

Mr Lone noted that prior to the announcement, the coalition was hoping that civil society groups either the Africa Centre for Open Governance (AfriCOG) or the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) would independently petition the results so that they would ride on their case.

He, however, noted that following the government's threats to deregister the two organisations and an attempted raid on AfriCOG offices, NASA had no option but to seek a legal redress.

"We always knew that even though we would not go to court, some serious group or individual would petition the results, but Jubilee was taking steps to frustrate these groups, leaving us with no option," he stated.

Last week, NASA ruled out the possibility of moving to Court stating that they would resort to other means with Siaya Senator James Orengo alluding to the fact that they were headed to the court of public opinion.

However, Mr Odinga on Wednesday noted that they decided to file a petition at the Supreme Court as the government had launched a plan to silence all voices and they would not tolerate that.

We had said we will not go court. But with the raid on civil society and determination to silence all voices that could seek legal redress like AfriCOG and the Kenya Human Rights Commission, we have now decided to move to the Supreme Court and lay before the world the making of a computer-generated leadership.

By going to court, we are not legitimising misplaced calls by some observers for us to concede but are seeking to give to those who braved the long lines in the morning chill and hot afternoon on Tuesday August 8th 2017; mothers with their children tied on their backs; the sick, people with disabilities, old and young a chance to be heard

"Furthermore, we act on behalf of those who have been blocked from seeking redress in courts such as the sustained clampdown on the civil society that have attempted to go to court. NASA wants to show the world what transpired in the fraud," Odinga stated.
