President Uhuru Kenyatta has responded after NASA leader
Raila Odinga withdrew from the October 26 presidential election.
Addressing a rally in Taita Taveta County, Kenyatta said
that Odinga had exercised his democratic right to withdraw from repeat
poll adding that elections with will go on as planned
At the same time, IEBC has announced that they are
consulting with their legal team on the way foward.
"Following the withdrawal of the NASA presidential
candidate, the Commission and the legal team are meeting and will communicate
way forward," part of the statement by IEBC read.
The former Prime Minister announced that he had
withdrawn from the repeat poll to give the electoral body more time to
prepare for fresh polls.
"After deliberating on our position in respect of the
upcoming election, considering the interests of the people of Kenya, the region
and the world at large, we believe that all will be best serves by NASA
vacating its presidential candidature in the election scheduled for 26 October
2017,"Odinga stated.
