A
29-year-old man has moved to a Nakuru court in a bid to be recognised as the
late Laikipia senator Godfrey Gitahi Kariuki's son.
Charles
Maina GG wants the family of the legislator, who died on June 30, to take him
in as one of the benefactors.
He
said the first family has completely sidelined him in the burial preparations
of his late father.
Maina
claimed that he was not allowed to attend the requiem mass for the late Senator
in Nairobi on Thursday.
He
said that all he wants is to be recognised as the son of the veteran
politician.
Maina
maintained that he is ready to take a DNA test to prove his claims.
He
told the media on Thursday after filing the case that he has all the right to
attend his father’s burial set for Friday.
"The
late Laikipia senator was very supportive of me. He even opened businesses for
me."
The
man claimed that he had discussed a succession plan with the legislator upon
the latter's retirement from active politics.
"My
father was very close to me. Every now and then we would hold talks on so many
issues," Maina said.
Lawyer
Kahiga Waitindi said his client is not after any property or wealth at the
moment.
The
case will be heard on Friday.
