Uhuru's Nominee Rejects Job Offer, Here's Why

Former Cabinet minister Ochillo Ayako has turned down his nomination as an ambassador.

Speaking after the announcement made by State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena on the new ambassadorial appointees, Ayako stated that he "wants to serve the people of Migori County in whatever capacity."

He went ahead to thank President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga for the "honour and respect they bestowed on me.

"I am ready to serve the great people of Migori either as a ward rep, MP, Senator or Governor and that is where my focus is," Ayako told Nation in an interview.

According to the former Rongo MP, he is eyeing the Migori senate seat that fell vacant following the death of Ben Oluoch Okello who succumbed to colon cancer on June 19.

A top ODM official told the Nation that the legislator is likely to be given a direct nomination for the party ticket.

"We are going to give him the ticket. Why would one decline such a lucrative job? He will be our candidate in Migori," the unnamed official told the daily.

According to reports, the move by the former minister to reject the nomination may unsettle politicians who have declared an interest in the vacant seat.

Those who have also declared an interest in the seat include former MP John Pesa, trade unionist Samuel Orwa, and Mr Maka Sembo.

State House has since replaced Mr Ayacko’s name with that of Mr Paddy Ahenda from Homa Bay County.

Uhuru’s rare message to Makau Mutua

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday made a rare gesture by reaching out to one of his fiercest critics - law scholar Prof Makau Mutua.

President Kenyatta’s message was delivered by his newly found ally ODM leader Raila Odinga, who was the chief guest at the opening ceremony of Kitui Villa - a new hotel owned by Prof Mutua.

“When I was coming here, I told President Kenyatta that I was coming to open Makau’s hotel and he told me to tell him to stop being too critical,” Odinga said of the President’s message.

This is the first time that President Kenyatta has gone on record in reaching out to Prof Mutua who has in the past five years refused to acknowledge the Jubilee leader’s legitimacy.

In his public commentary, the veteran human rights activist stated that he would never recognize Kenyatta as President, always referring to the head of state as “Mr Kenyatta”.

"In 2013, I refused to recognize Uhuru Kenyatta as President of the Republic of Kenya. The 2017 shambolic elections confirmed the illegitimacy. I can’t — and won’t — recognize Uhuru Kenyatta as PORK," he said last year.

He has, however, supported the recent handshake deal made between the President and the former Prime Minister – who is also Mutua’s personal and political ally.

Ex-Raila's aide and Julius Karangi join Uhuru's Government in latest appointments [LIST]

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday evening through a Gazette Notice appointed 106 Kenyans to fill various vacancies in State Parastatals, among them former Raila Odinga’s aide, Caroli Omondi and Retired General Julius Karangi.

Caroli Omondi was picked to the Board of National Oil Corporation of Kenya as a member for a period of three years, while Rtd Karangi was picked as Chairperson of the Kenya Ports Authority Board, for a period of three years.

Karangi retired from the Kenya Defence Forces on May 4, 2015 after 42 years of service.

Other key beneficiaries of Uhuru’s appointments are former Isiolo Governor Doyo Godana who has been named to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Board (Eldoret), Mr Joseph Kibwana to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Ports Authority Board.

Former Mombasa County Jubilee gubernatorial candidate Suleiman Shabhal has been picked by the President Chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Trade Network Agency, while Mudzo Nzili, the chairman of Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has been picked to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Irrigation Board (NIB) up to the 9th of January, 2020.

The late William Ole Ntimama’s son Amos Ntimama was picked to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 6th June, 2018.

Former IEBC vice chairperson Lilian Mahiri-Zaja alongside Eng. Samuel Mugo has been picked as Commissioners of the Energy Regulatory Commission, for a period of three years.

Meet PS Lillian Omollo’s Husband Who Is A Close Family Friend To The Kenyatta's

Embattled Public Service PS Lillian Omollo has in the recent week grabbed national headlines after she became the highest-ranking government official to be arrested and charged in the Sh9 billion NYS scandal.

Unknown to most Kenyans, Ms Omollo is married to a close family friend of the Kenyatta's and her swift arrest perhaps is an indication of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s commitment to fighting graft.

The PS, however, continues to use the surname Omollo from a previous marriage.

Her husband, Dick Oneko, is the son to independence hero Achieng Aneko.

Aneko served alongside Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in Kapenguria and although the two leaders would part ways politically in 1966, the friendship between their families has continued over the years.

Dick was one of the prominent professionals from Nyanza who actively campaigned for President Uhuru is last year’s presidential campaign.

Incidentally, Dick’s elder brother Dr Ong’ong’a Achieng became one of the high-ranking officials to serve a jail term after a Nairobi court found him guilty and jailed him for three years over corruption.

Raila Makes Worrying Confession About Deal With Uhuru

NASA Leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday confessed that the handshake deal made with President Uhuru Kenyatta was under threat from what he described as selfish politicians.

Odinga made the rare confession while speaking at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom where he gave a speech on the unity process that he has championed alongside President Kenyatta.

The former Prime Minister stated that many of the perpetrators of historical injustices have now ganged up to attack his deal with President Kenyatta.

Odinga was, however, optimistic that the unity deal would materialise and serve as a good example for other African countries that have struggled with divisive politics.

“It is our hope that the handshake could inspire other African nations struggling with problems similar to those of Kenya.”

"There will be opposition and resistance because the issues we want to tackle go to the core of how Kenya has been run over the past five decades,” he stated.

President Kenyatta has also in the recent accused some unnamed persons of undermining the unity deal.

Sonko Rejects Uhuru's Order

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has rejected the formation of the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NAMATA).

The Governor said that there was no deal between the county and national governments.

NAMATA was created last year by President Uhuru Kenyatta through an Executive Order under the enabling provisions of the State Corporations Act.

The authority was expected to cover the counties of Nairobi City, Kiambu, Kajiado, Machakos and Murang’a.

NAMATA Functions

According to the Act, NAMATA's core function is to provide a sustainable integrated public transport strategy based on the development of a sustainable urban mobility plan that will be the basis for the orderly and structured development of the proposed Metropolitan Area mass-transit system incorporating both the bus rapid-transit and commuter rail.

The move by Sonko is likely to strain the delicate relationship between City Hall and State House.

In January, the Nairobi County Boss accused individuals ‘close to State House’ of interfering with the running of affairs at City Hall.

State House "clique"

Sonko said the individuals might not be directly from the House on the Hill, but are within the system made up of a clique of people who opposed his governorship bid and had created the perception that he cannot deliver if elected.

“It is a story for another day. It is a very big story. There is interference, not directly from State House, but within the system. The interference is coming from the people who never thought I could be a governor,” Sonko said during an interview with a local radio station.

Otiende Amollo Gives Crucial Info About Uhuru-Raila Deal [VIDEO]

Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo on Tuesday disclosed how the victims of post-election chaos who lost their loved ones and property would be considered in the unity deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a panel discussion on NTV, the ODM legislator acknowledged that the handshake was not meant to sweep away the injustices in terms of those who died and who got maimed.

"There are those who feel genuinely aggrieved, they lost their loved ones, they had property destroyed and those asking if the handshake will solve that, that is a definite No! Once a life is lost, nothing you can do can reverse the loss or make up for it" he stated.

Amollo, however, acknowledged that in making amends, the issue should be addressed by doing things that would avoid the loss of life in future and be mitigating the loss from the previous election.


"The handshake is supposed to provide a framework to establish what they will do for those families who lost their loved ones and property and if the framework of the handshake cannot settle it then the judicial process will settle it," he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna maintained that the party would not engage in 2022 polls as it was focussed on helping Raila's 'Building Bridges' initiative.

“There are serious and far bigger issues of primary importance to us as identified by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr Odinga than the 2022 politics, and we will remain focused,” he told journalists on Monday.

He added that the party was more interested in achieving its nine-point agenda and ensuring that they spoke with one voice on national issues.

ODM is holding its National Executive Council (NEC) at Elementaita where Raila is expected to give the members details on his handshake deal with the president.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s adopted son Daniel Owira ‘Otonglo’ reveals he was a victim of peer pressure during his first year in campus.

For starters, Uhuru adopted Owira in 2013 after a stellar performance at the drama festivals. Owira’s hilarious creative narrative impressed the president so much that he chose to adopt him.

Five years later, Campus Vibe caught up with Owira to shed light on his life. The president’s son admits to smoking weed during his first year in campus.

“I gave in to peer pressure while in first year. I did smoke weed, but it made me feel useless. Luckily, God intervened and I stopped. That was a sad period in my life,” said Owira.



Owira denies claims that he is a seasoned skirt-chaser. He explains that the fact that women love him does not necessarily mean he is a womanizer.

“I know I am a handsome and God-fearing young man, so you can’t blame me when ladies like me. I just have a connection with people and they love me for who I am. Does that make me a womaniser?” Said Owira.

Owira further reveals that he last met Uhuru two years ago. He says the president is always checking up on him through the Kenyatta Trust.

MPs Cause Commotion During President Uhuru's State of The Nation Address

There was a commotion in parliament on Wednesday when legislators scrambled for a chance to greet President Uhuru Kenyatta after giving his annual State of The Nation address.

While making his way out of parliament, the president shook hands with a number of legislators who were seated in the front row among them Majority leader Aden Duale and Minority leader Junet Mohammed.

MPs who were in the back rows could not sit back and let the honour to greet the Head of State pass them by.

That is when they unceremoniously rushed to the front for a chance to shake hands with President Uhuru causing a commotion in the Chamber.

President Kenyatta's address resonated with a reconciliatory tone, urging for unity and support to fulfil his Big 4 agenda.

"Let us as leaders learn that we can criticise one an each other constructively, let us teach our fellow Kenyans to adore hard work, teach to preserve the unity of this house called Kenya.

"We need to change so our children can grow in a different Kenya - Our ethnic identity does not need to be our political identity," he urged.

He admitted that his unity deal with Opposition chief Raila Odinga had not solved all of  Kenya's pressing problems, stating that it would take time and called for patience from Kenyans.

"I am not the only leader who acted to preserve the unity of our people. Let me praise Raila Odinga, when we met earlier this year- we stood together- not because we agreed on everything, but because we agreed that Kenya is greater," he explained.

In the spirit of reconciliation, President Kenyatta asked for forgiveness for any wrong he had done declaring: "If there is anything I said last year which hurt or wounded you, if I said anything which damaged the unity of this country, I ask you to forgive me."

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday caused a moment of excitement at the State of the Nation Address after he stopped for a moment of handshake with Opposition leaders led by Embakasi MP Babu Owino.

Uhuru Is Becoming A Problem In Jubilee – Close Ally Reveals

The apparent cracks in the Jubilee coalition have now taken a new twist after a long-time ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta confirmed that the Jubilee Leader had caused sharp divisions in the ruling coalition.

Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, who has worked with President Kenyatta since 20002 stated that the head of state had caused huge problems in Jubilee by failing to refusing to consult and failing to offer leadership in his recent deal with NASA Leader Raila Odinga.

Ngunjiri stated that the President Kenyatta had particularly taken the Mt Kenya leaders for granted by entering into secret dealings with Odinga that are not well understood by the electorate.

Uhuru's Tweet On Matiba Backfires Badly As Kenyans React In Anger

President Uhuru Kenyatta's tweet in honour of the late champion of multiparty politics Kenneth Matiba backfired after netizens responded in anger.

Shortly after making a speech at Matiba's funeral service held at the All Saints Cathedral, the President tweeted on the need for leaders to emulate the deceased politician with regard to youth mentorship.

The secret meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga continues to elicit sharp reactions with leaders cross the divided differing in opinion.

While the two leaders said they had agreed to set aside their political differences in favour of national reconciliation and healing, some leaders in the ruling Jubilee party read a different script.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei sensationally claimed during a live interview on Citizen TV on Friday, April 20 that the deal was a plot to stop Deputy President William Ruto from succeeding Uhuru in 2022.

“We are aware that the reason that Raila came to pacify with Uhuru is because they have a strategy on how to derail presidential admission of William Ruto,” he said during the interview.

As reported previously by The Evening Post, the senator does not approve of the highly publicised deal terming Raila as a dangerous character who cannot be trusted.

“As Jubilee we are very careful, when he comes to the house. Because he’s a very…he’s a dangerous character. In 2002, he destroyed KANU,” said the senator.

The Raila-Uhuru handshake sent the political class in a frenzy with many not sure of what the two had agreed behind closed doors with NASA co-principals terming Raila a betrayer while those in Jubilee warning Uhuru to be careful.

Raila has sustained his meetings having shocked the country when he met and held talks with retired President Daniel arap Moi and later on Friday, April 20, with former Head of State Mwai Kibaki.

Since the handshake, Raila has held meeting with leaders from Mt Kenya inluding Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo as well as leaders from his nyanza backyard.

He also met and held talks with Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko where they discussed about matters affecting the capital.

In all the meetings, pundits and politicians have opined that it could be a strategy by Raila to position himself for the 2022 race while others say it is a plot by the political dynasties to safeguard their legacies.

Ruto is already putting in place strategies for the seat as he plans to succeed Uhuru.

The DP has been on a nationswide tours which most see as early campaigns for his bid beised hosting delegations from differnt regions at his Karen home as he spreads his net wide.

Uhuru’s Explosive CNN Interview To Air At 9pm

President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is on a five-day trip to London, will appear on CNN at 9pm Kenyan time.

The interview will be hosted by hard-hitting anchor Christiane Amanpour, Statehouse spokesman Manoah Esipisu said on Thursday evening.

Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita earlier hinted that the session would dwell on several key issues.

4 Nairobi Estates Where Uhuru Will Reduce Rent

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to reduce rent prices in four Nairobi estates by introducing low cost housing in the areas, which is part of his Big Four agenda.

According to realtors, the president's planned construction of 30,000 housing units will greatly reduce rent prices in Shauri Moyo, Makongeni, Starehe and Park Road estates.

Shauri Moyo is earmarked to receive 5,000 new homes, Makongeni will have 20,000 units and Starehe will receive 3,000 before October 2018.

State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu conveyed that the ground breaking for the scheduled 2,000 units at Park Road estate will take place within the next three months.

A long term plan to assign 7,000 acres of public land to private developers is also at play.

Some of the private realtors who spoke to Business Daily outlined that President Kenyatta's plan is workable lauding it for its econimic value.

"Land in Nairobi contributes a significant portion of the unit cost of a house and offering developers of affordable housing free land, makes real the likelihood of prices easing on the apartment market," HassConsult research and marketing manager Sakina Hassanali explained.

Cytonn Investments senior manager for regional markets Johnson Denge added that the 30,000 new units would cause the revision of cost of housing.

"There are some markets that are charging unnecessarily higher. There will be a correction of rentals.

"These houses will dignify the dwellings of these people who live in the informal settlements yet are paying rentals that are for a dignified place," he noted.

Currents statistics indicate that six out of every 10 Nairobi residents live in informal segments while the current deficit for housing in Nairobi stands at 1.85 million units.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday was heckled in London by Kenyans believed to be National Resistance Movement (NRM-K) supporters.

The Head of State was met by an angry crowd after he delivered his speech at Chatham House.

His security personnel was forced to hurriedly get him away from the crowd which was shouting at him.

From the videos circulated on social media platforms, the supporters could be heard demanding justice for the NRM-K self-declared general Miguna Miguna.

The crowd, which had placards and pickets, were shouting at President Kenyatta demanding for him to respect the rule of law.

However, amongst the protestors were Uhuru's supporters who are also heard shouting: "Uhuru is justice!"

They were also carrying posts with messages expressing their support for Mr Kenyatta's Big Four Agenda in his second term as President.

The President was giving a speech at Chatham House where he urged world leaders to embrace healthy political compensation and foster global democracy while explaining his unity deal with Raila Odinga.

Pope Francis Sends Message To Raila & Uhuru

Pope Francis on Sunday sent a message to all political leaders including President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga.

Through his social media, the Catholic leader appealed to all politicians to push for peace in their respective countries.

"While I continue to pray unceasingly for peace, and invite all people of good will to do the same, I renew my appeal to all those with political responsibilities to ensure that justice and peace prevail," he conveyed.

The Pope does not shy when it comes to commenting on political issues in different countries around the world.

After the nullification of the presidential election in 2017, he called on all Kenyans to engage in constructive dialogue ahead of the repeat presidential election.

Speaking while addressing tourists and pilgrims who had gathered for the Angelus prayer, the Pope noted that he was closely watching the situation in Kenya adding that all faithfuls should remember the country in prayer.

“I ask you to join my prayer for peace in the world. I am paying close attention in these days to Kenya, which I visited in 2015, and for which I pray, that the whole country might be able to face the current difficulties in a climate of constructive dialogue, having at heart the search for the common good," Pope Francis stated.

His message came at a time when President Uhuru and Raila had refused to dialogue ahead of the repeat election.

Earlier in April, he intervened when a UK Court ruled that a 23 months infant named Alfie Evans who born with a degenerative brain condition and has been in a semi-vegetative state since December 2016 to have his life support machine switched off.

The Pope made a passionate plea in support of the parents to keep the child alive.

"It is my sincere hope that everything necessary may be done in order to continue compassionately accompanying little Alfie Evans, and that the deep suffering of his parents may be heard. I am praying for Alfie, for his family and for all who are involved," he tweeted in support.

President Uhuru’s Son Weds At State House, No Photos Allowed

The exclusive wedding between Fiona Achola Ngobi and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s eldest son Jomo Kenyatta last Sunday was Kenyan version of a royal wedding.

This is after the nuptials between the two brought together two prominent families at an invite only wedding at State House, Nairobi.

Achola, the niece to Defence Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo, wedded Jomo at an exclusive event graced by family, friends and Kenya’s elite in business and politics.




For security purposes and to accord them privacy, no photos were allowed at the event. Those who made it to the invitation list were ordered not to carry any type of cameras and guests were barred from taking any pictures.

 Photos from the tightly sealed event have not leaked out yet but it has not stopped people from speaking about it. The wedding could easily have been the event of the year.

After holding their traditional wedding at Uhuru’s rural home in Ichaweri, Gatundu South Constituency, last year, it was only natural that they would hold the wedding.

The couple welcomed their first child baby Wanjiru, named after the first lady Margaret Kenyatta. Baby Wanjiru arrived last year at the Aga Khan hospital where Achola delivered.
