- NASA sources have
intimated to the media the options Raila has available to him after he rejected
the presidential election results
- One of the options
could be talks with Uhuru after the president-elect sent messengers to Raila on
the day he was declared the presidential race winner
- Other options are
calling for peaceful mass protests and calling for an independent audit into
the presidential election results National Super Alliance presidential
candidate Raila Odinga is mulling over four options on how to proceed following
his rejection of the Tuesday, August 8, presidential election results.
Having sworn to never
be a presidential candidate again following the disputed election, he said he
only wants to show Kenyans and the world what happened, and is set to unveil
his evidence.
According to sources
who spoke to local dailies, Raila Odinga has four options available to him, as
they firmly ruled out going to court as they did in 2013 and lost the case on
technicalities.
1. The opposition
alliance may call for peaceful mass protests. Sources, according to the Daily
Nation on Tuesday, August 15, also said the opposition brigade ruled out the
chances of Raila conceding defeat.
2. NASA will push for
an independent audit of the presidential election.
3. They would file a
case at the Supreme Court through a proxy. The Standard on Tuesday, August 15,
reported that this could be done through a society group critical of the
presidential results According to prior TUKO.co.ke reports, an organization has
already filed a case to challenge Uhuru’s re-election.
4. Raila could open
back channels for talks with the government as it emerged that President-elect
Uhuru Kenyatta sent agents to Raila on the day IEBC declared him the winner.
5. The Standard
reported that speculation was also rife that NASA could declare their parallel
results that show Raila won the election, and call for mass action.
Raila and his
co-leaders are expected to give their supporters a road map of their next move
on Monday, August 15, as well. As provisional results begun streaming in on Tuesday,
August , the opposition rejected the results, claiming IEBC systems had been
hacked and an algorithm introduced to give Uhuru a constant 10% lead over
Raila.
