The Supreme Court is set to deliver judgment on NASAs
presidential petition today.
NASA leader Honorable Raila Odinga had filed the petition
claiming that the presidential election was rigged.
The petition was heard by a seven judge bench led by
Chief Justice David Kenani Maraga.
Here are some facts you did not know about Maraga.
Birth
He was born on January 12, 1951 in Bonyamatuta in Nyamira
County.
Education
He earned his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) from
Sironga District Education Board (DEB) at Bogichora in Nyamira County (1961 to
1967)
He started his O level studies at Maranda High School in
Siaya County in 1968 before joining Kisii High School after for his A levels –
The East African Advanced Certificate.
After completing his high school education, he joined the
Kenya School of Law to pursue a Diploma in Law.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Law from the
University of Nairobi in 1974 and later his Master’s degree from the same
University.
Marriage
He is married with three children.
Religion
He is a staunch Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) and has,
since his vetting for Chief Justice last year, made it very clear that he
cannot compromise going to church to hear a case in court.
He is also an elder at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Work
Justice Maraga was appointed to the High Court in 2003 by
former President Mwai Kibaki. He later joined the Court of Appeal in 2012.
He is the 14th Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya
having succeeded former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga in 2016.
Maraga will only serve for one term as the Chief Justice
age limit is 70 years old.
