Former Meru Governor Peter Munya Has Been Reinstated As The Party Of National Unity (PNU) Leader.

Meru Governor Peter Munya has been reinstated as the Party of National Unity (PNU) leader.
In a Gazette notice published on Friday, the Registrar of Political Parties cancelled an earlier notice that ended Munya’s leadership at PNU alongside other officials elected last year.

This restored Mr Munya and other party officials who include John Okemwa (Secretary General ),Paul Rukaria (Deputy Secretary General),Sheikh Juma Ngao (National Vice Chairman),David Kamau (National Vice Chairman-Operations),Peter Kaberia (National Treasurer),Anastacia Munyendo (Deputy National Treasurer) and Stephen Koskei ( National Organising Secretary) among others.

"The list of party officials of the Party of National Unity as contained in Gazette Notice No. 8315 of 2017 is cancelled, Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndung'u " stated.

The cancelled notice was based on a judgment by the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal delivered in June naming former President Mwai Kibaki as the party leader.

The notice read: The officials of the interested party in office as at 27th October 2016 remain the bona fide office bearers of the interested party until a proper general meeting is held to elect national officials.

The judgment was, however, set aside by the High Court after Munya contested it. He had termed Ms Ndungu's move to gazette Mr Kibaki as PNU leader as a blatant disregard of the law.

Munya's reinstatement comes three days after he withdrew his support for the National Super Alliance (NASA) to support President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election.
