Billionaire businessman Jimmy Wanjigi is set to be axed by
NASA in the run up to the repeat presidential elections scheduled for October
17.
Wanjigi and the campaign chief secretariat Willis Otieno are
among those set to be kicked out of the coalition as NASA embarks on a
strategic re-structuring to ensure a lean efficient team charged with
organising a well-oiled campaign to ensure Raila Odinga becomes the country’s
fifth president.
According to The Star, the decision to expel Wanjigi was
reached at the weekend during a strategic meeting at the Coast where
co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula all told
Raila they did not want Wanjigi because “he did not help NASA as expected
and instead caused the team problems,”.
The NASA leaders were blunt in their assessment saying that
Wanjigi had promised so much and delivered almost nothing to the campaign.
It is reported the tycoon had promised to pay for a
tallying center, poll agents and the production of media advertisements, in the
run up to the August 8 polls but did not deliver as expected.
Close allies of Raila say that the businessman orchestrated
the “perversion and watering-down” of the coalition’s original manifesto that
focused on eliminating cartels and corruption and instead came up with an
edited document that introduced unapproved mega-projects seeking huge tenders
from a NASA government.
The raft of new changes to be adopted by the NASA team
include the elevation of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and former Machakos
Senator Johnson Muthama to be heads of resource mobilisation and logistics
while economist David Ndii while head the strategy team.
