It is now emerging that the October 26 election could fail
to happen in at least one county.
NASA leader Raila Odinga’s home county of Siaya is bearing
the brunt of the protests that have sought to stop the repeat poll scheduled on
Thursday.
Transportation of election materials became a challenge for
security officers as major roads had been barricaded with numerous electric
polls.
Although the officers were able to successfully transport
materials to the County headquarters, they suffered a major setback after the
IEBC staff declined to take part in the dispatch process.
Most of the local staff who had been tasked with
transportation of election materials stayed away after they received death
threats.
The County Returning officer and other presiding officers
did not pick calls with reports suggesting they had penned their resignation
letters.
By the time of publishing this story, no progress had been made in dispatching of the ballot boxes to the respective polling stations.
The development came after area Governor Cornel Rasanga had
declared that there would be no elections in his county. He also threatened
“serious consequences” for any resident who would dare to take part in the
repeat presidential poll.
