The shoddy deals by billionaire Jimi Wanjigi that almost
broke the Nasa coalition made Raila Odinga shuffle feathers with the
coalition’s key financier.
Mr Wanjigi has in the recent past become the darling to Mr
Odinga’s family, having appeared in rare events with the billionaire.
Mr Odinga almost dumped Mr Wanjigi, despite his financial
power in the run up to the August 8 bungled elections, after the billionaire
attempted to present his own manifesto that would have been used for campaigns.
Arguably, Mr Wanjigi also demanded a top position at the
coalition, which would have made the ranks to six principals – after Isaac
Ruto’s entry - a move that was vehemently opposed by Mr Odinga.
The rarely photographed business mogul’s self-made manifesto
had created tension within the Secretariat, and which Mr Odinga was at pains to
defend after one of his advisers rejected the blanket deal.
Mr Odinga’s key strategist and adviser Dr David Ndii termed
the Jimi Wanjigi manifesto as “the work of tenderpreneurs”, putting Mr Odinga
in a tough position on whom to defend between Mr Wanjigi, his financier, and Dr
Ndii, his adviser.
The final attempts to have a parallel tallying centre by
National Super Alliance, is now known, is the work of the billionaire.
The alleged tallying centre which was raided in Westlands by
GSU officers was created by the IT- guru Mr Wanjigi, and was later to be joined
by other individuals who would come from Ghana and the US.
Although Nasa senior counsel and Siaya Senator Mr
James Orengo had said that this was one of its smaller tallying centres,
details later emerged that the same gunmen raided two other secret locations
and carted away more computers.
It is not clear why Mr Odinga had opted to have Mr Wanjigi
next to him despite the shady past about his corruption deals, despite Mr
Odinga’s hard talk on corruption.
Mr Wanjigi fell out with Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto
after the Jubilee administration failed to give him the Standard Gauge Railway
tender which was handed to the Chinese Government.
The billionaire is allegedly the cementing factor between
Raila-Kalonzo, Uhuru-Ruto and Musalia-Wetangula duos.
