The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)
has reportedly vowed to appeal a decision by High Court allowing former
presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot to participate in the fresh presidential
election.
In a report by the People Daily, the electoral body
together with the Jubilee party did not welcome the Wednesday morning ruling
by Justice John Mativo.
This comes minutes after Judge Mativo instructed IEBC to
include the lawyer in the much-awaited poll.
In his ruling, Mr. Mativo noted: "The fresh election in
the current context should involve all the candidates who participated in the
annulled election”.
Aukot moved to court to challenge IEBC decision to only
include President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga in the fresh
elections.
This was after the Supreme Court ruled that the re-election
of Mr Kenyatta was null and void.
According to the apex court, the elections were plagued with
illegalities and irregularities.
