Deceased Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru was a man under
political siege, Kahawa Tungu has established.
Bad blood had brewed between the late County boss and his
ally turned nemesis Engineer Kinyua Kimuri who until the time of his
(Gakuru)swearing in was his right hand man. Sources intimate that the duo feel
out while Gakuru was constituting his County Administration.
Kimuri is said to have been the force behind Gakuru’s
election into office having supported him politically and financially. However,
immediately he was sworn in, Gakuru replaced him with one Nahashon Mung’ora.
Reliable sources have it that while the miasma of political
tiff between the Governor and his confidantes weighed heavily on the residents,
his rivals who include Senator Ephraim Maina, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua and
his Kieni counterpart Kanini Kega were thrilled by the turn of events.
The two MPs (Rigathi and Kega) are said to have eyes on the
2022 gubernatorial as Governor and Deputy.
Gakuru who lost his life in a grisly accident on Tuesday
that saw his driver and police give conflicting accounts will be laid to rest
on 18th of November.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko while musing over the rush to
swear in Gakuru’s Deputy Mutahi Kahiga has suggested that the Constitution
needs to be amended to extend the time in which a deputy governor is sworn into
office should a governor die while still serving his or her term adding that he
did not want to politicize the death of his colleague.
“I think something has to be done. I am not conversant with
that, but if you ask me, the Constitution has to be amended. It is very wrong
that even before the mourning period lapses, the deputy governor has to take
over.”
Sonko further asked DCI boss, Ndegwa Muhoro, to commence
thorough investigations into “this sad tragedy.”
