Kenyans are calling for justice after police sprayed bullets
on a Toyota Axio with three occupants. The three were mistaken for ‘lethal
gangsters’.
The killings of Dickens Otieno Waga (21), Jeff Patrick Opiyo
(22) and Elvis Oloo Ogeda (21) has sparked uproar on social media.
The three met their end at Kariobangi Roundabout on Tuesday
January 9th 2017. Apparently the three were being tracked by the police who
thought they had stolen the car.
Elvis Oloo had been employed as a chauffeur by the car’s
owner John Wanjala. He was assigned to take a child to and from a school in
Buruburu.
“Elvis came home in the morning after taking the child to
school and washed the car. At around 1pm, he drove out. It was not until 7pm
that his boss came to my house seeking to know his whereabouts.
His employer
showed us photos on Facebook asking us if Elvis could be among those killed. We
saw and we were convinced it was him and we went to Buruburu Police Station to
report,” Elvis’s father Tom Ogeda said.
Elvis’ parent suspects the owner of the car may have tracked
his car and upon realizing it was away from his Umoja home and tipped off the
police that it had been stolen.
Mr Ogeda noticed something was amiss when they went to
Buruburu police station. Police only engaged his son’s employer while he was
kept guessing inside the station.
Another thing that raises questions are the guns found
besides the lifeless bodies of the youth. Police are suspected to have planted
the two guns (one beside Jeff and the other beside Dickens) after realizing
they had shot innocent boys.
