Police Withdraw From Uhuru Park Ahead Of Raila's Swearing In

Police on Tuesday morning unexpectedly withdrew from Uhuru Park which had been declared a no-gone zone ahead of NASA leader Raila Odinga’s swearing in.

Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome had earlier stated that NASA supporters would not be allowed anywhere near Uhuru Park to avoid a confrontation with other groups which had booked the venue.

On Monday evening, the Nairobi Business Community called off a planned medical camp, stating that they did not wish to clash with NASA supporters.
However, come Tuesday morning, NASA supporters were freely allowed in to the historic grounds that are expected to host Odinga’s controversial swearing in.
Reports indicate that security bosses decided to allow the ceremony as a strategy of avoiding a violent confrontation.
