President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, January 30, arrived
back into the country from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, after attending the 30th
Africa Union Summit. Upon arrival, Kenyatta in a rare show of strength,
inspected a quarter guard mounted by a detachment of Kenya Air Force.

The unusual reception by the military was taken as a
reminder to all Kenyans as to who the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces
truly was.

Also present to welcome back the head of state was Deputy
President William Ruto and Chief of Defence Forces, General Samson Mwathethe.
Uhuru had earlier in the month traveled to South Africa in
an official state visit, to hold bilateral talks with South African president
Jacob Zuma.

Upon his return he maintained his usual casual approach and
was received by a select few of his closest officials and friends.
This time this was not the case as the armed guard waited on
queue for the arrival of their commander, a clear warning shot to opposition
leader Raila Odinga, the newly sworn-in People’s president.
