Death leaves a void no one can ever fill. The family and
friends of Kenyan nurse Mary Waithera Kamathi, who was killed in Essen in
Germany three weeks ago are going through tough times.
Mary was found lying in a pool of blood in her shop, with a
knife wound on the chest. The 27-year-old, who left the country in 2010 to work
in Germany lost her father barely six months after settling in the foreign
land and was left with the responsibility of taking care of her mother and
brother.
The body of Mary Waithera Kamathi, finally arrived
home last night amid sobs.
In an interview with the Standard, Waithera’s
mother, Alice Kamathi said that she was shocked after learning about her
daughter’s demise.
“We Had Spoken Two Days
Before Her Death. It Is A Big Loss For Us. Waithera Supported The Family
Financially. She Took Care Of Our Medication. My First Born Son And I Are
Diabetic. Since My Husband Died, We Have Relied On My Daughter For Support. She
Had Been In Germany For Eight Years,” She Said.
The emotional mother narrated how they spent the holiday
together last year and she’s yet to come to terms with her daughter’s death.
“We Are Still Trying To
Come To Terms With The Loss And Call On The Government To Intervene So We Can
Get Justice.”
So far one suspect has been arrested in connection
with Waithera’s death.
