Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has pleaded
with President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene and secure his political future
after his parliamentary win was nullified.
Owino, who has softened his stance regarding the President,
was speaking in parliament where he sought Uhuru’s help on his political future
which currently looks uncertain.
He strategically used a biblical reference to urge the
President to ‘take him out of the fire” as he had suffered for long enough.
The MP was referring to his recent setback where the court
had nullified his parliamentary win on grounds that the poll might not have
been conducted in a free and fair manner.
"I would like to tell the president, Uhuru Kenyatta,
that he has put Babu Owino in fire, and he has burned and he is strong. I do
not want to be stronger than this, let him remove me from the fire.” He said
amid laughter from other parliamentarians.
The conversation came from the parliamentary debate on
whether to back the recent of unity from Uhuru and NASA leader Raila Odinga.
Owino has in recent times been one of Jubilee’s harshest critics, and has been
arrested on several occasions in connection to alleged insults directed at
Uhuru.
He has since toned down on his outbursts and even promised
to quit hurling insults on fellow leaders from the Jubilee camp.
With Raila pledging to put the issues aside and focus on
rebuilding, Owino also seems to have followed suit, as he recently ended his
long-standing feud with artist –turned politician Jaguar.

Despite his passionate plea to the President, his fate still
lies in the court’s hands of the High court after he appealed the
nullification.
