It Was Painful for Me to Meet Uhuru - Raila Speaks Out



Opposition chief Raila Odinga on Friday reveled that he had to make the toughest, yet painful decision to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking in Kisii County when he attended the burial ceremony of the late Prof. Tumbo Oeri at his home in Mosocho, Mr Odinga said the decision was for the benefit of Kenyans, even as his Nasa co-principals held a separate meeting in Nairobi over brewing in senate.

“I had no choice but to make a painful decision to work with Uhuru Kenyatta in a bid to realize a unitary State,” said Mr Odinga, a week after meeting President Uhuru Kenyatta at his Harambee House in Nairobi.

This was the first time Odinga was speaking in public after the Athi River meeting with his colleagues in NASA, a meeting in which all the principals backed the initiated conversation between the Opposition and the ruling Jubilee.

Wetangula's ouster

Meanwhile, NASA co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi have disagreed with Raila Odinga led ODM party over the eviction of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula as Senate Minority leader.
Speaking shortly after their Friday morning in Karen, Nairobi, the two leaders declared their unwavering support for Mr Wetangula, who is being sought after by Mr Odinga's ODM.
"The principals have reaffirmed their total confidence in Hon Wetangula as the official leader of the minority in Senate. Their support for Wetang’ula in this regard is unwavering," the statement read.

On Thursday, the Ford Kenya Party leader was an embattled man after Minority Whip and Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr introduced the motion of his removal through a letter as per the House rule.
Mr Kilonzo presented the letter following a Parliamentary group meeting attended by 16 senators affiliated to the ODM Party.
