A mugger in Nairobi's CBD has confessed to stealing over 700 mobile phones.
Victor Eshiwani was caught by the anti-mugging squad on Tuesday and revealed that he had stolen over 700 phones.
He further pleaded with officers to release him, promising he would look for a job and quit the vice.
“I even have a shed where I can sell items but I do not have the capital to invest,” he remarked.
Eshiwani is one of the notorious muggers in the CBD who have been robbing pedestrians of their belongings in recent months.
He, however, distanced himself from the gangs noting that he operates alone.
"I operate alone, but I have also seen others who operate from there. Some four of them work together.
“They were mugging people at noon. I can show them to you. But if you can set me free, I can go look for something else decent to do for a living.
"I am very sure that I am not coming back here and you will never again see me here,” Mr Eshiwani told the officers.
The officers, on the other hand, stated that Eshiwani is part of a gang of five and their families always bail them out whenever they are charged in court.
“These muggers are some of the most dangerous in town.
“He can even kill. We have arrested him countless times,” Senior Sergeant Osoro Albert was quoted by the Nation.
Several other suspects were arrested in an operation on Moi Avenue, Racecourse Road, Ronald Ngala Street, Tom Mboya Road and Wakulima Market area.
Most of the muggers are said to originate from Majengo, Mathare, Kayole, Githurai and areas along Jogoo Roads.
