Business in Eldoret's Central Business District (CBD) on Wednesday afternoon came to a standstill after chaotic demonstrations broke out.
The demonstrations featured matatu operators who were protesting against what they described as police harassment.
The protesters blocked major roads including the busy Eldoret-Kabsabet road.
Police in the area have reportedly been on a mission to extort cash from matatu operators with numerous conductors being said to be in state custody.
The demonstrators have stated that they would only allow normalcy to resume after an address from Inspector General Joseph Boinet and area Governor Jackson Mandago.
