Embattled Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) Managing Director Charles Ongwae has been fired even as he faces charges relating to importation of contraband goods.
Industrialization CS Adan Mohammed has appointed Dr Moses Ikiara to replace Ongwae in an acting capacity for the next three months.
Ikiara has been serving as managing director at Kenya Investment Authority.
Kebs is currently facing a credibility crisis after several senior officials were charged with conspiring with traders to allow entry of contraband goods into the market.
The suspects have faced charges that include attempted murder.
They are accused of clearing substandard fertiliser which was below the legal standards and allegedly contained mercury.
KEBS officials, however, have been freed on a Sh5 million bond with a surety of a similar amount.
