IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati on Thursday morning caused
confusion after he delayed a critical meeting with NASA leaders led by Raila
Odinga meant to discuss the upcoming Presidential repeat elections.
The meeting had been scheduled for 8 am at Odinga’s private
office at Capitol Hill in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.
However, Chebukati sent out a message indicating that he
would not meet the NASA team at their private office given that he was the head
of an Independent Constitutional Commission.
The IEBC boss, however, offered the leader an alternative after he agreed to meet Odinga’s team at Anniversary Towers which hosts the IEBC headquarters.
Interestingly, Chebukati has in the past held lengthy talks
with NASA principals at the same Capitol Hill offices.
By the time of reporting, the NASA delegation had not
arrived at the IEBC headquarters but was reported to be on their way.
The IEBC Chairman is expected to hold talks with the
Opposition leader to establish a common ground on a number of issues regarding
the October 17 poll.
It is not clear if the polls commission will also be meeting
Jubilee leaders who have also raised their concerns over the transition team
picked to supervise the repeat elections.
