NASA presidential Candidate Raila Odinga’s presidential
campaign has been given a major financial boost after a generous donation from
one of his MPs.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who has in the past month
demonstrated near - fanatical support for Odinga, announced that his first
monthly salary would be directed to the repeat elections expected to be held on
October 17th.
"My first salary will go to Raila's presidential
campaign,my second and subsequent salaries will go on educating orphans,"
the new MP tweeted.
Babu’s announcement on Wednesday came a day after the
Opposition coalition made pledges for financial support from their supporters.
ODM Chairman John Mbadi on Wednesday revealed that the party
has already received a “good amount” through the donations made through their
mobile money paybill numbers.
Mbadi, however, declined to specify the amount raised.
In the new pay structure released by the Salaries and
Remuneration Commission (SRC), MPs will earn a gross salary of about 1 million
which comes to about 700,000 after tax. Legislators are entitled to a basic
salary of Sh621,250, in addition to allowances totaling to about Sh455,000.
