Police have revealed what caused the accident that killed
Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru on Tuesday morning.
According to the police, the accident was caused by a tyre
burst during heavy downpour that pounded the area early Tuesday morning.
The police have also disclosed that Gakuru's personal
assistant and the bodyguard who were in the same car are in serious condition
while the driver was said to be out of danger.
The accident occured at Kabati Makenji area on the
Thika-Muranga road as the governor was on his way to Nairobi.
The governor had earlier been rushed to the Thika Level 5
Hospital in critical condition after the accident.
The late Gakuru's body has already been transferred to the Lee
Funeral Home in Nairobi.
Gakuru has only served as Governor for less than two months.
He succeeded Governor Samuel Wamathai who took over the
leadership of the County after the death of Nyeri first Governor Nderitu
Gachagua.
