Sasha Seraphine Mbote caused a stir when she shared photos
showing her hanging out with National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga
in Zanzibar days after the Supreme Court annulled President Uhuru Kenyatta's
win.
The photos showed Raila and Seraphine relaxing in a hotel in
the island, with the opposition leader's shoes taken off.
They were also holding closely with drinks on the table, in
indication it was a good time.
Kenyans quickly took to social media and within minutes,
Serpahine and Raila were trending for the wrong reasons. They were accused of
sleeping together. Seraphine vehemently denied the accusations. Now she has
opened up on what happened on that fateful night in an exclusive interview with
The Evening Post.
Seraphine has reiterated that she did not sleep with Raila
as alleged but says she was going about her business when she bumped into the
opposition in the company of his team in the hotel.
She was star-struck and called out Raila's nickname 'Baba'.
A jovila Raila who was enjoying his drink leaped to his feet and hugged her and
exchanged pleasantries.
"I was like, Baba. He stood up, came, gave me a hug,
shook my hand. This was not just anyone. This was Baba. He asked me are you
Kenyan? I told him yeah. He invited me, called the waiter and told him to give
what I preferred. I ordered beer and we had a chat about the East African
community, working away from home and the challenges," Seraphine said.
She says she took photos with Raila and left after the
pleasantries and the drink. She requested to post the photos on social media
and Raila agreed.
Seraphine is unhappy that Kenyans spread propaganda that she
warmed Raila's bed and said it is a problem ladies always face whenever they
find themselves in such situations. She argues that our society has been made
to believe that ladies cannot progress without sleeping with men in authority.
