Speaking from Harambee House, the CS stated that the
government had a duty to protect its citizens thus the media houses would
remain shut down.
He also stated that he had credible intelligence that
elements operating under the banner of the National Resistance Movement
(NRM) had ferried huge groups of people to Nairobi to cause mayhem.
Matiang'i further stated that coverage by the media would
have lead to incitement and a 'massacre of catastrophic proportions' was going
to happen.
"The government's responsibility is to protect the
lives of people. We are committed to the rule of law.
"There was well-planned effort intended to use the
excuse of a possible conflict (between police and NASA supporters) and cause
bloodshed," stated the CS.
