Immediate former Attorney General, Githu Muigai is one of
the most learned lawyers in the country who has served in the same capacity for
the past six-and-a-half years.
Born January 31, 1960 in Ndumberi village Kiambu County,
Githu holds a doctorate degree in law awarded to him in 2011.
Githu has served as the AG since August 2011 after Amos Wako
who served as the county's AG from 1991 to 2011.
Others who served before him include, Charles Mugane Njonjo
(1963 – 1979) James B. Karugu (1980-1981) Joseph Kamere (1981-1983) and Matthew
Guy Muli (1983-1991)
However,there are a lot of facts about the former Nairobi
gubernatorial aspirant that most Kenyans do not know.
1: Githu Muigai has over 20 years experience in the practice
of law in Kenya and in East Africa.
2: He is an Associate Professor of Public law in the School
of Law of the University of Nairobi (currently on leave of absence).
3: Githu Muigai is married to Justice Margaret Waringa
Muigai a judge of the High Court who was appointed by Chief Justice Willy
Mutunga in 2014
4:Graduate student at the Columbia University Law School,
New York for a masters degree in International Law from 1985 to 1986.
5: He schooled at Meru High School from 1978 to 1979 for his
East African Advanced Certificate of Education.
6:He was born in Ndumberi village Kiambu County.
7: He is a partner in the Mohammed Muigai Advocates since
1995 and a lecturer in Nairobi University since 1991.
8: Githu is currently
the UN special Rapporteur on contemplary forms of racism, racial discrimination
xenophobia and related intolerance.
9: He is a recognised authority on information and communication
technology law-where he helped draft the Kenya communication Regulation 2007
10: Githu Muigai is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of
Arbitrators (UK)
11: He is a member of the American Association of Trial
Lawyers, Institute of Public Secretaries, Law Society of Kenya and East African
Law Society.
12: He is also a member of Council of Legal Education,
International Commission of Jurists International Bar and the Association and
the Commonwealth Lawyers Association
