NASA leader Raila Odinga was on Tuesday night left stranded after his efforts to rescue Miguna Miguna from police custody were frustrated at the last minute.
Odinga appeared at the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday afternoon when Miguna was supposed to be presented before High Court judge Luka Kimaru for release.
However, police failed to present the outspoken lawyer before judge Kimaru for the fourth time since his arrest on Friday last week.
The High Court judge had vowed not to leave the court room until Miguna was presented before him - a move that was supported by NASA leaders and lawyers.
While Kimaru finally left the courtroom before the self-declared NRM general could be produced, Odinga and a few other NASA operatives remained at Milimani and braved the night with expectation of having Miguna brought for release.
At some point, the team conducted a physical search of all the cells at the Milimani Courts basement in search of Miguna.
The team was later to learn with shock that Miguna had been booked on an KLM flight which was already on the airside - ready to exile him to Canada.
The Ministry of Interior Coordination, through spokesman Mwenda Njoka, claimed that the controversial lawyer had denounced his Kenyan citizenship. No evidence has been availed to support the claim.
