When death comes it robs us of our loved ones. Added to this fact, many times a lot of money has to be spent to bury the deceased. But there is also the issue of those who died while undergoing treatment. The medical bills that can accrue in our modern medical establishments can be astronomical!
The next story illustrates this fact very well. A 65-year-old man in Murang’a is auctioning his one-acre piece of land and a cow so as to be able to foot a KSh 1.8 million medical bill that has seen his wife’s body detained at Nairobi Women’s hospital for close to four months now.

That is not all, he is willing to sell his own children! Peter Njoroge who hails from Kaganda village of Murarandia ward in Kiharu constituency said he understood it would be a tall order to sell his children but he is willing to take the chance. Is it not illegal but I digress.
Four months since the passing of his wife Lucy Wairimu, Njoroge has had his patience tested after meetings on the burial with family members eventually fizzled out after they realized the body of his late wife was not coming anytime soon. Talk about throwing the baby with the birth water.
Most are the days the man finds himself alone with his daughter-in-law and grandchildren since the neighbors have abandoned the family after attending burial arrangement meetings only to realize the burial date is yet to be known.
He held a fundraiser for the funeral expenses but netted a mere 100,000 shs. He even tried to get the Deputy President to help when he was passing the constituency. But that was to no avail.

Esther Wanjiku, a neighbor advised the old man to set up a paybill account when she learnt of the quagmire facing the Njoroge.
In case you want to assist the family, the Paybill number 217224, Ac Name: Lucy Wairimu (Deceased) and the Account number is the sender’s phone number. Let this sad affair come to an end!
