
There was drama in Voi town,Taita Taveta County on Thursday, February 22, evening after a group of angry mourners dumped a coffin with a body in it inside a supermarket The mourners who hail from Sagala location treated the management of the supermarket and passers by to a free cinema as they set the open coffin inside the business premise before breaking into sharp wails.
We have learnt that the irate villagers wanted the owner of the supermarket to pay for the deceased death.
According to reports from Voi, the deceased identified as Amos Mwambanga and his unidentified colleague passed on in a controversial circumstance after undertaking an illegal oath.
It is reported that Amos and the other dead guy were forced to take the oath at Msherinyi village near Maungu after they were accused of stealing four goats belonging to the supermarket owner.
The two are said to have taken the oath ,administered by a Tanzanian witch doctor to spot the suspect who had stolen the goats.
Speaking at the supermarket during the drama, Amos's relatives revealed that the deceased had been herding cattle and goats for the owner of the supermarket since 2016 and could not steal from him.
The incident was confirmed by Voi OCPD Joseph Chesire who said the oath was suspected to have been mixed with poison,leading to the death of the two headers.
Demanding justice, the the mourners arrived at the supermarket in a pick-up carrying the coffin escorted by numerous motorcycles.
Eye witnesses who spoke to members of the fourth estate revealed that the mourners were also demanding Sh 60,000 compensation so as to go and bury their loved one.
The drama brought business to a standstill in the town for hours.However, peace was restored after police intervened.
