The family of the late Cabinet minister Kenneth Matiba has now confirmed earlier held reports that the deceased politician was poisoned while in state custody.
The official eulogy read at his ongoing memorial service claimed that the fiery politician was subjected to "sustained poisoning" while in state custody in 1990.
Matiba had been arrested just a few days before the Saba Saba Rally scheduled for July 7th 1990, alongside his friend Charles Matiba and current Opposition Leader Raila Odinga.
He later suffered a stroke in what has previously been explained as lack of proper medical treatment.
Over the years, Matiba's supporters have come up with various theories on what caused his stroke - some even claiming mercury poisoning.
Matiba's former lawyer Paul Muite had earlier stated that after suffering a stroke, the fiery politician was denied medical attention and only provided with pain killers for nearly a whole week.
