Former Nairobi County Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe has landed a lucrative job at the Equity Bank.
Igathe has joined Equity Bank as its Chief Commercial Officer only four months after resigning as Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's deputy.
Igathe resigned from his post in January after he claimed that he has failed to earn the trust of Governor Mike Sonko to enable him work at the county.
“I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive Administration and Management of the county. Without fear, favour or ill will I step down to avoid abusing or betraying my oath of office to Kenyans, Nairobians and my family. Thank you for the encouraging support given to me so far,” he said in a post on his Twitter account.
Sonko in March unveiled a short list of 22 prominent personalities as possible replacements for his ex-deputy governor with Igathe surprisingly making it to the list.
On Monday, Sonko was been given a seven-day ultimatum by Nairobi opposition MCAs to nominate Igathe's replacement.
The MCAs claimed that Nairobi County was a "mess" because the governor lacked a deputy to advise him.
