Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's close ally and East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Simon Mbugua has been arrested.
The EALA MP has been arrested over links on the attack of former Nairobi Central Business District Business Association (NCBDA) Chairman Timothy Muriuki last week by suspected hired goons.
The goons disrupted and attacked Mr Muriuki when he was holding a news conference at Hotel Boulevard regarding the deplorable state of the county.
According to the gang, Muriuki organised the event to mudsling Governor Mike Sonko's administration.
Police reward
The National Police Service on Saturday offered a Sh2.5 million cash reward for information that will lead to the arrest of the five men who assaulted Muriuki.
Mbugua is regarded along City Hall corridors as the powerful figure behind the governor's throne.
Members of the County Assembly had in the past petitioned the governor to make clear, the roles of Mr Mbugua was in his administration due to his frequent visits amid claims he was intimidating them.
“I am a great friend to Governor Mike Sonko. I have never in any way meddled in the operations of the county,” Mbugua was once quoted as saying.
The EALA MP was also blamed for the sudden resignation of former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe.
