Kenyan referee Aden Range Marwa has been exposed by a BBC investigation into how match officials are bribed.
In a secretly recorded video, Marwa is seen taking $600 dollars (Ksh60,000) in a hotel room before a football match.
Marwa was approached by an undercover journalist posing as a Ghanaian football official during the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).
In the video, he is heard telling the jounalist: "You know, thank you for the gift, but you know the most important is that friendship, getting to know each other."
He was lined up to be an assistant referee at FIFA 2018 World Cup, a position guaranteed to bring in at least $25,000 (Ksh2.5 Million) along with an extra match fee of $2,000(Ksh200,000) per game.
FIFA has since confirmed that Marwa will no longer take part in the tournament.
The BBC investigation was planned out by the journalist Anas Anas whose identity remains hidden from the public.
It also badly exposed the President of the Ghanaian Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi who was captured taking a $65,000 'gift'.
Reporters working with Anas had posed as potential sponsors for the team and set up a meeting.
Nyantaki also sits on FIFA's council and is an executive committee member at the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
It is against the rules of football governing bodies for referees or officials to accept supposed gifts or bribes of any kind.
